Please note that this competition is now closed. You will be contacted shortly if you are one of the lucky winners!

It’s been a little while but it’s once again competition time here at Thoughts On Film! This time we have DVD copies of the new black comedy Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife from debut writer/director and Scandal star Scott Foley, which is already on iTunes and will be released on DVD on April 13th. It features a great cast including Patrick Wilson (Insidious, Watchmen), Amy Acker (The Cabin in the Woods, TV’s Person of Interest), Donald Faison (Clueless, TV’s Scrubs), Greg Grunberg (TV’s Heroes), Nicolette Sheridan (TV’s Desperate Housewives) and Foley himself.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Everyone hates Ward’s wife and wants her dead, Ward (Faison) most of all. But when his friends’ murderous fantasies turn into an (accidental) reality, they have to deal with a whole new set of problems — like how to dispose of the body and still make their 3 p.m. tee time.

We love a good black comedy here and the cast alone makes this one worth watching! Check out the trailer below to get a flavour for the film:

Thanks to Maven Publicity, Solo Media and Matchbox Films, we have 3 DVD copies to give away. To be in with a chance of winning you just have to answer the following: what is your favourite Patrick Wilson film and why? Make your answers interesting to give you the best chance of scooping one of the DVDs! 1. I love the insidious movies. It was the first thriller/horror movie to actually scare me. Me and the wife were the only people in the cinema for the first one and I was constantly jumping and hiding my face.

  2. Watchmen – predictable possibly, but a fab adaptation of the comics. Particularly fab costumes, including Patrick Wilson’s Nite Owl II

  3. The A-Team film! Unfortunately I am old enough to remember the original series and was a big fan (who wasn’t!) and so was a bit dubious about the film but it was great. I love a good black comedy and this sounds brilliant….I pity the fool who doesn’t enter this competition!

  4. Insidious – I ‘m a HUGE horror movie fan and can safely say I’m an expert on horror. It’s VERY hard for a movie to scare me but this one scared to go up the stairs to bed

  5. I loved him in passengers! I am cabin crew and end up watching all of these types of movies! I shouldn’t really as I’ll end up changing careers!

  6. My favourite of his films is ‘The Alamo’; something of a critical and commercial flop, but I really enjoyed it. Some great action scenes, and Wilson was convincing enough as the lawyer William Travis.

  7. Insidious was my favourite because i am a horror fan anyway but his performance made the whole film a hit when they made an insidious 2 without him it bombed

Feature: 2019 Oscar Predictions 0 4031

I think it’s fair to say that the run up to this year’s Oscars has been a little messier than usual, from unexpected and bizarre wins at other awards shows (Vice winning Best Editing at the BAFTAs, anyone?) to ridiculous decisions by the Academy to change the show around.

The latter has proved a particular point of contention with both those in the industry to onlookers on social media, with choices such as not letting all the songs be performed to introducing a Best Popular Film category (whatever that means) to not airing four categories live; Editing and Cinematography proved a particular issue, sending the folks of Film Twitter into a Hulk-like rage.

Thankfully all of these decisions except for the one to not have a main host have taken the walk-back of shame; I look forward to Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair again. Of course there’s still the issue of plenty of thoroughly deserving films, filmmakers and performances not being up for any Oscars at all (*cough* Toni Collette! *cough*) but of course that’s not an issue unique to this year.

The show must go on, as they say, and I thought a week out from this year’s ceremony I’d throw my hat into the ring as far as predictions goes. Below I’ve listed what I think will win in each category, as well as what I personally would like to see pick up that little gold man come next Sunday evening.

Competition: Win King of Thieves on DVD *CLOSED* 0 3872

***This competition is now closed. Thanks to all who entered! The two winners will be contacted soon!

This coming Monday sees the DVD and Blu-ray release of King of Thieves, the latest film from acclaimed director James Marsh (Man on Wire, The Theory of Everything), which features a cavalcade of legendary British actors including Michael Caine, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon and Paul Whitehouse who team up to pull off a brazen heist. You may know the job from our own headlines as “The Hatton Garden Heist,” described as the biggest and most daring heist in British history.

It’s a good slice of old-fashioned heist movie fun which morphs in its latter half into something with surprising touches of the dangerous and sinister as suspicions and loyalties start to inevitably turn.

To celebrate the film’s release, we have two copies of it on DVD to give away, thanks to the lovely folk at Studio Canal.
