He used to be one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and to an extent he still is, but the 85-year-old Clint Eastwood has been concentrating mostly on directing as of late and he’s showing no signs of stopping. He’s directed a couple of biopics over the last few years including J. Edgar and last year’s Oscar-nominated American Sniper. Now he’s set to tackle another biopic.
THR reports that Eastwood has set his sights on the real life story of Cpt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the (at the time) 58-year-old pilot who famously safely landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549 in New York’s Hudson River in January 2009, saving all 155 passengers on-board. The biopic will explore the veteran pilot’s life in the lead up to that dramatic event.
There’s no word yet on who will play the role – Eastwood seems suited himself for the older years, no? – but it will see Eastwood continue his long-standing working relationship with Warner Bros. He will also produce alongside Frank Marshall and Allyn Stewart, who acquired the rights to Sully’s memoir “Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters.”
Eastwood and WB will obviously be hoping for another hit on their hands, although the likelihood of it beating American Sniper’s gargantuan $543 million seems slim – it makes that both the most successful war movie of all time and easily Eastwood’s box office king.
