Earlier this month we reported on the news that stop-motion animation maestros Aardman, who gave us Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and this year’s delightful Shaun the Sheep Movie, were working on a new cave man-themed animation entitled Early Man, with Nick Park at the helm.
Now we have our very first look at the film in the form of a brand new quad poster, which cleverly utilizes a volcano in the background as one of the As in the name as a cave man and his Gromit-esque companion (warthog?) runs away from it.
Check out the poster for yourself below (click for larger size):
The film has apparently become a very fast seller as Cannes this year for Aardman and partners StudioCanal, with deals already struck for distrbution outside of the UK in everywhere from Switzerland to Hong Kong (a deal for the U.S. is still being worked out). The fact that it’s selling like hot cakes this, ahem, early shows the trust people have in the Aardman name and trademark handmade style.
Directed by Park (his first since 2005’s The Curse of the Were-Rabbit) and written by Mark Burton (Shaun the Sheep Movie) and John O’Farrell (Chicken Run), the film is set at the dawn of time where, according to Empire, “dinosaurs and woolly mammoths roamed the Earth” and that “one plucky caveman must unite his tribe against a mighty enemy and save the day for everyone.” It’s even rumored to focus specifically on the world’s first game of football, helping the lead-up to the 2018 World Cup.
