Despite the third film in the “geriaction” franchise not performing as well as the first two ($206 mil versus the $274 mil and $305 mil of the first two, respectively), we’re going to be getting The Expendables 4 sooner or later. And today we have word that a certain wrestling legend might play the big bad this time around.
In a Q&A at the Body Pro Expo in Birmingham, Hulk Hogan talked about the possibility of him playing the biggest baddie yet in the 4th installment of the all-star action franchise. Here’s what he had to say about the matter on Wrestling Inc (via Uproxx):
[I] was talking on the phone with Sly [Stallone] about doing The Expendables 4. We’re trying to figure out a way to maybe turn me into the most evil man in the world. Y’know, Stallone gave me my first break and he’s been a great friend. We had a great conversation, talking about the possibilities. Can I still run, can I still jump? Well, not as fast or not as high, but I think Hollywood could find a good stunt man to help me out.
“Most evil man in the world”? You have to admit, they certainly go for it with these movies!
As you may or may not remember, Hogan appeared in Stallone’s Rocky III where he fought him in the ring. It might be hard to believe it now but back then Hogan wasn’t really a known name so in essence, as he says above, Stallone helped shoot him to stardom.
It might seem silly to inject such an over-the-top athletic persona as Hulk Hogan into most Hollywood action franchises but The Expendables series is another story. This is the franchise that right off the bat featured the likes of Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li and eventually expanding the role of recently rekindled action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The Expendables 2 even featured Chuck Norris who literally turns up to deliver one of his famous Chuck Norris One-Liner Jokes before disappearing entirely! The second film featured Jean-Claude Van Damme as a villain (seriously) – hilariously named Jean Vilain – while the third one added a fittingly over-the-top Mel Gibson as the baddie.
Adding Hogan would actually be a smart move box office-wise as it would draw in extra folks who still love all things WWE and have fond memories of the red-and-yellow-clothed wrestler.
