He last inflicted upon us brought us summer blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction, making his usual studio Paramount a butt load of money as a result, and is working on his latest Benghazi actioner 13 Hours. But what’s next?
Well it’s being reported that Michael Bay has set his sights on Time Salvager, a time travel-themed sci-fi thriller based on the yet-to-be-published novel by Wesley Chu, which Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing. The Wrap has the official plot:
The story follows a convicted criminal named James Griffin-Mars, who is identified as one of a select group ideally suited for time-travel missions that could delay humanity’s demise. He’s sent to Earth’s past to recover resources and treasure without altering the timeline. On a final mission that will secure his retirement, James meets Elise Kim, an intriguing scientist from a previous century, who’s fated to die during the destruction of an ocean rig. James brings Elise back to the future with him, saving her life, but turning them both into fugitives.
It seems the project got going quicker than most – stuff like this can sometimes take months or even years to come together – and evidently it’s a hot idea having been snapped up more than a month before its July 7th publication date. This news seems to have slipped out sooner than the studio and Bay might have liked as Chu wrote a post on his blog confirming it but he swiftly deleted it.
Apart from his so-called “passion project” Pain & Gain, Bay has been playing in the Transformers sand box for 8 years now (seriously) so it’s at least encouraging to see him do something different with this and 13 Hours.
