We’ve heard about a movie based on the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft for many, many years now and we’re finally getting close to it becoming a big-screen reality.
There have been props and logos revealed, as well as those at Comic-Con getting a teaser sneak peek, but now we get our first official look at the Warcraft movie’s lead character, warchief Orgrim Doomhammer, being played by British actor Robert Kazinsky. He’s a popular character from the original games, for those not in the know, and what looks like a iconic and formidable character to lead the potential franchise.
Check out the impressive-looking images below:
Pretty damn cool, huh? Kazinsky is unrecognizable as the character, as he is transformed into the dominating orc. Kazinsky is known to British audiences for his lengthy role in soap Eastenders and also played an important role in season 6 of HBO’s True Blood. Big movies-wise, he played Chuck Hansen in Pacific Rim and he was originally cast as Fili in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit movies but he mysteriously backed out at the last minute. Warcraft, although he’ll be in CGI-mode, will hopefully be a big breakout role for him in Hollywood, adding to the upcoming portrayal of Frankenstein’s monster in Fox’s planned new series.
Under the direction of Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), the movie’s special effects are being brought to life by the wizards over at Industrial Light & Magic, those responsible for everything from the original Star Wars to Titanic to Avengers: Age of Ultron. They’re using concept art from the original Blizzard Entertainment games and merging that with photos and scans of Kazinsky’s face and body to create the ultra lifelike effect. Those images above are nowhere near the finished product, either – they’re still a year away from the scheduled finish – so expect it to look pretty mind-boggling by the time the movie comes out.
Warcraft is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 10th, 2016.
