We recently reported on the news that Reese Witherspoon is going to star in a new cyber thriller movie Second Life. Now we’re hearing news of another, rather more magical project that the Oscar-winner has lined up for herself.
THR reports that Witherspoon is in talks with Disney to star in and produce a live action version of their beloved fairy Tinkerbell in a new fantasy movie entitled Tink. The film, which is being written by Finding Dory scribe Victoria Strouse but still in search of a director, is said to play around with the known idea and Peter Pan timeline, though exact plt details are being kept firmly under lock and key for the time being.
Think along the line of Maleifcent, which gave a new perspective on a known character. Unlike that project, however, the aim is to keep the budget on a modest scale, so that suggests that the pressure will be on Witherspoon to turn in an even better performance than Jolie did as the famous Sleeping Beauty villain.
Since her first small and non-verbal appearance in J.M. Barry’s original Pan story and the much-loved 1953 film, the character has grown to become one of the most known and beloved in Disney’s fairytale canon. She has made countless appearances in different media over the years, most famously being played in live action form by Julia Roberts in Steven Spielberg’s Hook. More recently she has headlined a spinoff series with films like ‘Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy’ and ‘Tinkerbell and the Legend of the NeverBeast’ proving hits with very young audiences.
Witherspoon was recently Oscar-nominated once more for her great performance in adventure drama Wild and can next be seen in action comedy Hot Pursuit, out in the UK on July 31st.
