Sorry, Beverly Hills Cop fans but it looks like you’ll have to wait even longer for the big-screen return of Axel Foley.
The Wrap reports the surprising news – gained from ” a studio insider with knowledge of the situation” – that Paramount has pulled the March 25th, 2016 planned release date for Beverly Hills Cop 4 from their schedule. The project has been in development for years now – there was even a TV show pilot made starring Brandon T. Jackson as Axel’s son so but it never made it to series – and when that date was announced a year ago, it seemed things were finally charging forward.
However, there’s word of changes at the executive level of the studio causing trouble for its release and ultimately has slowed it down to the point where the studio isn’t confident enough to go ahead with the date originally set. However, Murphy himself had told Rolling Stone a few months back that script issues were the reason for the ongoing delay of the project – could that have come to a head with this release date pull? Murphy said that he wouldn’t even consider returning if the script wasn’t right.
I’m sure Paramount would like to have released Beverly Hills Cop 4 as planned but a silver lining for the studio is that it will no longer be going head-to-head with the juggernaut that is Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The studio now has their Monster Trucks movie (yes that’s a thing that’s happening…) competing with it in March, 2016 instead.
We’ll keep you up-to-date if and when a new date for Beverly Hills Cop 4 is announced.
