It looks like the Divergent series is adding even more heavy acting weight to its cast for the big finale in the form of Emmy winner Jeff Daniels.
Even if you don’t find the Divergent movies particularly that interesting – we liked the first one but found the sequel, Insurgent, rather dull and confusing – you have to admit they manage to snag some pretty impressive big names for the cast. First there was Kate Winslet, then Naomi Watts and now Daniels. He is reportedly in final negotiations to play the important role of David, the leader of the “Bureau of Genetic Welfare” and the final book’s chief antagonist.
In case you don’t know, the Divergent series is based on a hugely successful series of books by Veronica Roth and is set in a futuristic society divided into various different factions depending on people’s attributes and virtues, including Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity and Candor. It specifically focuses on Tris (Shaileene Woodley) who is classified as “divergent” i.e. she doesn’t just fit into one of those categories and therefore considered a threat by the powers that be.
Like most adaptations of popular books these days, the final film Allegiant will be split into two parts ala Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. Snore! Erm, I mean more for us!
Admittedly I’m not familiar with the source material but Daniels is always a watchable presence (we’ve just about forgiven him for Dumb & Dumber To!) and it brings even more gravitas to a cast mostly made up of young rising stars like Shaileene Woodley, Miles Teller and Theo James.
Do you think Daniels is a good for for the Divergent series and the character in particular?
Allegiant: Part 1 is released on March 18th, 2016, with Part 2 hitting cinemas the following year on March 24th, 2017.
