Kevin Smith has announced that the sequel to his 1995 slacker classic Mallrats will be called, simply, Mallbrats. Smith posted a picture of the completed first draft of the film’s script to all of his social media feeds (see below), helping to create a buzz around the film way ahead of time.
Smith has also been using social media to update his fans on the casting of the film, confirming that many of the main cast from the original are returning including Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead), Jason Mewes (Clerks), Scott Mosier (Chasing Amy) and My Name is Earl alumni Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee.
It had previously been announced that Clerks 3 would be Smith’s next film in production, however that has been put on the back burner for now as Mallbrats takes prominence in the director’s plans.
Also on the horizon for Smith is the post-production and release of Yoga Hosers and Moose Jaws, to complete his Great North Trilogy that kicked off with last year’s thriller Tusk.
It’s definitely a busy time for someone who in 2011 announced his retirement from filmmaking.
