He’s just about to return as one half of the Thunder Buddies in Ted 2 but beyond that Mark Wahlberg is set to reteam with director Peter Berg for a new action movie that already has a stacked action cast.
THR reports that Wahlberg will collaborate once more with Berg on Mile 22, a new action movie that’s being set up at the newly launched film and TV studio named STX Entertainment. The duo are also set to produce the film alongside Stephen Levinson. They most recently collaborated on modern war epic Lone Survivor.
Written by former US marine Graham Roland – who has written episodes of some successful TV shows like Lost, Fringe and Prison Break – the plot will follow a, “CIA agent (Wahlberg) stationed in Indonesia who is tasked with transporting a compromised informant from the center of the city to an awaiting getaway plane at an airport 22 miles away. While en route, they must battle corrupt police, criminal overlords and heavily armed locals, all hell-bent on taking them out before they reach their plane.”
Anyone else get a 16 Blocks vibe from that plot?
Wahlberg joins an already impressive action cast that includes UFC fighter-turned-action movie star Ronda Rousey, as well as The Raid franchise’s Iko Uwais; I guess he’s going to be Hollywood’s go-to guy for any of their movies set in Indonesia?
Along with the aforementioned Lone Survivor, Wahlberg and Berg are currently shooting a new drama entitled Deepwater Horizon, which explores the infamous U.S. oil spillage that happened back in 2010. There’s also been word of the two collaborating further on a Six Billion Dollar Man movie, to be written by Wild Tales’ Damien Szifron but since there’s no fresh word on that then it looks like Mile 22 will take precedent.
Wahlberg also has comedy Daddy’s Home opposite Will Ferrell on the way and is rumored to star in drama-thriller Patriot’s Day.
